Episode 6: Killing the Inner Critic

Episode 6: Killing the Inner Critic

Welcome to The Intentional Story Podcast!

Spoiler alert – if you’re ever wanted to watch that Ryan Reynolds movie where he is buried alive, don’t watch it. Or if you really want to watch it, Maggie tells you how it ends in the first 2 minutes, so maybe skip ahead if you don’t want to know.

While we may not be able to actually kill our inner critics, we can name them, acknowledge them, and move on from them. Continuing our conversation from the last episode, we’re diving deep into that voice inside our heads that tells us we aren’t enough, we won’t make it, we’re incapable. When does that critic start, where does it come from, and how can we treat ourselves carefully and gently as we try to unpack these pieces of ourselves?

We want to hear you, we want to connect with you, and we want to help you tell your stories, intentionally.

Love,
Maggie, Melanie & Nate

Episode 5: A Touch of Imposter Syndrome

Episode 5: A Touch of Imposter Syndrome

Welcome to The Intentional Story Podcast!

We seem to hear and read a lot about ‘imposter syndrome’ these days, but what does that mean for us as storytellers?

Believe it or not, audiences can tell if you are afraid, insecure, overconfident, or arrogant as soon as you walk on stage. At the end of the day, it all comes down to owning your story, so how can you fully own it?

In this episode of The Intentional Story Podcast, we break down what ‘imposter syndrome’ is, how it affects the way we see ourselves, and how we can move past it into a place of confidence and vulnerability.

We want to hear you, we want to connect with you, and we want to help you tell your stories, intentionally.

Love,
Maggie, Melanie & Nate

Episode 4: Empathy is the Key to Great Storytelling, pt. 2

Welcome to The Intentional Story Podcast!

Welcome to the Intentional Story Podcast where we talk about… Maggie’s anger. Okay not really, but that is how we start things off this episode.

We are actually continuing our conversation about empathy and storytelling. Melanie, Nate, and Maggie share about some of their experiences, specifically within their families growing up, and how their ability to understand the other sides of the story has helped them become more empathetic people.

Join us as we figure out how we own our stories, ask better questions, and open ourselves up to more empathetic relationships.

We want to hear you, we want to connect with you, and we want to help you tell your stories, intentionally.

Love,
Maggie, Melanie & Nate

Episode 3: Empathy is the Key to Great Storytelling, pt. 1

Episode 3: Empathy is the Key to Great Storytelling, pt. 1

Welcome to The Intentional Story Podcast!

If you know us at all, you know we talk about empathy A LOT. Spend some time with us as we talk about the difference between empathy and sympathy, and how every single one of us as human beings can feel with other people more genuinely.

In this episode of The Intentional Story Podcast, we dive deep into how all of these things shape us on and off stage, and discuss why the world needs more truly empathetic people (let’s all feel things with each other, but not pity each other).

We can all grow in our ability to empathize with other people, and the first step is realizing that it’s okay to be vulnerable. When we share our stories with one another, we get to not only grow in relationships, but grow in the way we feel things for and with other people. Empathy really is the key – to relationships, to health, to growth – and we could all use a little more of it.

We want to hear you, we want to connect with you, and we want to help you tell your stories, intentionally.

Love,
Maggie, Melanie & Nate

Episode 2: Meet Your Hosts

Episode 2: Meet Your Hosts

Welcome to The Intentional Story Podcast!

Well, hi! We’re Maggie, Nate, and Melanie – and we’re here to share a bit about who we are and what makes us care about stories and the people who tell them.

Melanie, the Approachable Badass, wants you to show up for yourself so you can show up for others. Growing up in a space where women were mothers, nurses, or teachers, she ended up getting into communications and falling in love with brand and brand strategy. She accidentally became a speaker trainer because she believes that people need to start saying what they need to say.

Maggie, the Tattooed Pastor, is a challenging voice to those around her who loves pulling the best out of everyone around her. After taking a career-projection assessment in high school she was told to be a trash collector, which honestly felt pretty par for the course, she got an English degree and then years later decided to go to divinity school (it sounds a lot like Hogwarts, but it’s disappointingly different).

Nate, the Chapter Heading Fiend, likes to slack Melanie and Maggie about what he should do with his hair when we all record podcasts. As an actor and empath, his goal is to hold space for people and give them permission to be themselves.

We want to hear you, we want to connect with you, and we want to help you tell your stories, intentionally.

Love,
Maggie, Melanie & Nate

Don’t Warm Up On Your Audience

Don’t Warm Up On Your Audience

“If you’re not clear about what you want,
your audience won’t be clear either.” – Julie Hansen

As Julie Hansen walked into my home, I KNEW we were going to get along. Her confident demeanor, outstanding style, and personal brand were on point – so we sat down to get to know each other on the podcast. She handed me her book, Act Like A Sales Pro, and proceeded to give me the deep dive into who she is, how she got here, and where she’s going. I’ll let her tell you about that journey – we packed all this goodness into 45 minutes.

Join us as Julie gives you the insider’s view of your sales presentations – because everyone is selling something. Yes, even you. From ticks & distractions to habits & respecting your audience – she even confirms my constant reminders to speakers to PRACTICE. Listen in, figure out your intention for your audience, DON’T WING IT, and go spark the magic!
xoxo
